The Mend rests on a small contradiction. The vessel is in pieces, held at the breaks by gold, and the flowers standing in it are the healthiest thing in the picture. A dried lotus pod leans out on a black stem, one leaf has gone to gold outright, and three petals have already come down on the table.
Process
Worked entirely with the knife. The background is laid in as blocks and each bloom is built from single loaded strokes, so the paint stays as thick at the edge of a petal as it is in the middle.
