The Long Field gives almost everything to the sky and the grass, and lets one tree carry the rest. The horizon sits low and far, the colour never rises above ochre and dust — a place recalled rather than visited, where the only thing memory kept in focus is the tree.
Process
Sky and field were scumbled in thin, dry layers until the weave of the ground showed through; the tree is the only part painted wet, so it holds the single clear edge in the picture.
