The Envoy carries herself like someone who has already been received. Gold filigree, jet stones, a turban wound in faded red and blue — and a gaze that has decided in advance how much it will give you. The paint stays dark and slow so the jewels do all the talking.

Process

Thin glazes over a warm ground, the way a period portrait is built. Each cabochon was left as a single wet highlight so the gold around it stays matte.
