The Elder is the heaviest presence in the Noble Creatures court and the least interested in the fact. Horns banded in gold, a browpiece of amethyst set between them, strands of pearl falling from the ears — ornament piled onto an animal that would stand exactly the same way without any of it.

Process

The wall was built up and scraped back until the plaster showed gold, then the animal was laid over it as one pale mass — the settings and stones are the only part of the picture given a hard edge.
