Nacre answers the question the rest of the Reliquaries leave open. Every other vessel in the series was given something to keep; this one made it. The shell is split between a barnacled grey exterior and an interior of layered mother-of-pearl, and the pearl sitting in it is too large to be anything but deliberate.
Process
Lit as a single-source still life so the shell's rough outer crust and its polished inner lining come from the same light — the pearl is the only surface allowed a direct highlight.
